Helping a Leading Subsea Engineering Firm Pioneer Offshore Solar Infrastructure

Picture

The Client

Our client is a leading subsea engineering solutions provider based in Singapore, known for delivering high-impact offshore infrastructure projects across Asia. With over 30 years of expertise, the company has worked with global MNCs and government agencies, including names like Petrobas, ABB, and Alcatel-Lucent. Operating with a highly specialized workforce and marine yard capabilities, the company is recognized for its innovative approaches in offshore wind, telecoms, and power transmission. Its notable milestones include the successful installation of high-voltage cable systems between Singapore and Malaysia, and completion of offshore windfarm and cable protection projects across South Korea and Indonesia. The company is well- positioned for international growth, targeting offshore renewable energy markets in Korea, Japan, and Southeast Asia.

How RIC Helped

Grant Secured

With RIC’s support, the client secured the Enterprise Development Grant (EDG) under the Innovation & Productivity pillar for the “R&D of a Prototype of Asia's First 20MW Solar Sub-Station for Offshore Floating Photovoltaic (PV) Systems.” The approved grant quantum was over S$300,000, covering up to 70% of qualifying project costs.

Scope of RIC’s Advisory and Consulting Work

RIC led the full end-to-end project and grant consultancy process. Our advisory went beyond simple grant writing—we worked closely with the client to scope and articulate a technically robust and commercially sound project, including:
  • Deep-dive analysis of the engineering innovation behind the floating solar substation.
  • Evaluation and comparison of market alternatives to substantiate the novelty of the client’s solution.
  • Detailed cost breakdowns and financial modeling for the R&D project.
  • Impact assessment on both business growth and Singapore’s sustainability targets.
  • Structured implementation plan, timeline, and team roles.
  • Supporting data for workforce capability development and commercialization potential.

This project involved cutting-edge offshore and energy technology, including AI- powered remote monitoring systems, predictive analytics for system failures, and 19modular infrastructure design for rapid deployment. RIC’s ability to understand and communicate such deep-tech content was a key factor in the grant’s successful outcome.

Outcomes

Beyond securing the EDG grant, the client successfully developed and deployed the Asia’s first offshore floating solar substation platform. Key outcomes include:
  • Commercial Success: The prototype is already being deployed in landmark offshore solar projects, including a 5MW floating solar farm by a major clean energy developer in Singapore.
  • Global Positioning: The project has put the client and Singapore on the map as global leaders in offshore renewable energy infrastructure.
  • Technical Capability Building: Four engineers were retained and involved in the R&D process, enhancing local capabilities in offshore solar tech.
  • New Business Lines: The project has catalyzed the creation of a new flagship product offering, exportable across international markets.
  • Brand Recognition: The client’s innovation was featured in international energy publications such as EnergyFacts.eu and Offshore-Energy.biz, boosting visibility and credibility.

This case exemplifies RIC’s mission: to help credible, innovative companies turn bold ideas into funded, feasible projects. Through hands-on technical consulting and deep understanding of grant mechanics, we helped a proven offshore engineering player take a bold leap into solar innovation—reducing risk, maximizing support, and accelerating market impact.
