关于客户和项目
客户简介
The client is a Singapore-based precision engineering firm established in 1993, with an 800 sqm production facility and 28 employees. Its capabilities include CNC machining, milling, grinding, and EDM wire-cutting, serving clients across medical technology, aerospace, electronics, and industrial automation. The company holds ISO 9001:2015 and bizSAFE3 certifications, with relationships involving organisations such as ST Engineering, Leica Instruments, and the National University of Singapore, plus distributors in China and the Netherlands.
自然计划
The project involved developing a proprietary automated bioreactor for cell culture and bioprocessing applications. The system was designed to automate critical steps including cell seeding, medium exchange, contamination monitoring, and cell isolation, while meeting Good Manufacturing Practice requirements. The development scope also included a sterile enclosure structure, real-time sensor-based monitoring, software control architecture, and a framework for future AI-assisted optimisation. The project represented a strategic move from customised precision engineering services into life sciences automation product development.
资金目标和挑战
资金目标
The funding objective was to support the client’s EDG project under the Innovation and Productivity track. The approved grant covered 50% of qualifying costs across manpower, third-party development and fabrication, materials, training, consultancy, audit fees, and software. The funding helped the client reduce the capital burden of a S$1.09 million product development project while building a proprietary automated bioreactor aimed at regenerative medicine, personalised cell therapies, and clinical biotechnology applications.
挑战
The client was pivoting from precision engineering services into proprietary life sciences product development. The project required more than mechanical design expertise because it involved automated cell seeding, medium exchange, contamination monitoring, cell isolation, GMP-oriented enclosure design, and future AI-assisted optimisation. The application had to show why this was a credible new product development project rather than custom equipment fabrication. RIC also had to help translate complex engineering and biological validation requirements into a structured funding case that aligned with Enterprise Singapore’s innovation and productivity evaluation criteria.
RIC如何为客户提供支持
RIC provided end-to-end advisory support from proposal design through to approved offer.
RIC’s support included:
• Defining the six development pillars of the automated bioreactor.
• Framing the project around automated cell seeding, real-time monitoring, automated medium change, cell and medium isolation, sterile enclosure design, and cell culture monitoring integration.
• Structuring the 12-month development roadmap, milestones, and KPIs.
• Aligning deliverables with mechanical testing, software functional testing, and live cell culture validation.
• Building the qualifying cost model across manpower, third-party development, fabrication, materials, training, consultancy, audit fees, and software.
• Coordinating the Business Grants Portal submission and offer process.
• Supporting engagement with Enterprise Singapore’s Healthcare and Biomedical team.
• Preparing the project narrative, vendor justifications, cost rationale, and supporting documentation.
RIC’s role was to convert a technically ambitious bioengineering product into a coherent, auditable, and fundable EDG application.

资金已到位
S$235,000
The client secured S$235,000 in EDG support, covering 50% of qualifying costs. The project funded development of an automated bioreactor with integrated cell seeding, sensor-based monitoring, medium exchange, isolation functions, GMP-oriented structure, and future AI integration potential. It also supported the hiring of a Software Programmer / Leader and planned additional commercialisation-phase roles in sales, regulatory affairs, and R&D engineering.
这对类似公司意味着什么
For precision engineering firms, the strongest growth opportunities often come from applying existing manufacturing capabilities to higher-value sectors such as medtech, biotech, and life sciences automation. But grant support requires more than technical confidence. The project must show clear product novelty, development milestones, cost logic, validation plans, market potential, and Singapore-based capability building. This case shows how an engineering company can reposition itself into a fundable innovation project when the technical ambition is structured into a credible product development and commercialisation roadmap.
